What is cryptocurrency?
Fantom is een layer 1 blockchain smart-contractplatform gebouwd op een directed acyclic graph (DAG) voor ongeëvenaarde snelheid, beveiliging en betrouwbaarheid. Dit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door twee belangrijke technologieën, Lachesis en Opera genaamd.
Lachesis is een consensuslaag van de Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) engine die dient als de kernconsensuslaag van het ecosysteem. Deze laag is gebouwd met behulp van het DAG-algoritme om het trilemma-probleem van blockchain op te lossen. Het traditionele blockchain-model is lineair, waarbij elk blok voorafgaat aan een ander blok, wat betekent dat transacties opeenvolgend worden verwerkt. De DAG heeft een boomstructuur, waardoor het veel meer transacties tegelijkertijd kan verwerken en zo het schaalbaarheidsprobleem oplost.
Opera daarentegen is het mainnet van Fantom. Het is toestemmingsvrij, open source en EVM-compatibele chain voor smart contracts van Fantom. Omdat smart contracts worden geschreven in Solidity, de eigen programmeertaal van Ethereum, kan elke DApp die is ontwikkeld op het Ethereum-netwerk eenvoudig worden ingezet op Opera. FTM is het eigen token voor het Fantom-blockchain-ecosysteem dat transacties op het ecosysteem mogelijk maakt.
