ZEC's current surge is no ordinary rally; it's a truly epic short squeeze.
From under $50 last year, it has surged past $1200, with a cumulative increase of over 20 times, peaking near $1250 on September 7. Even more dramatic, shorts have been forced to stop loss repeatedly, with tens of millions of dollars in short positions liquidated. The higher the price rises, the more shorts have to buy, and the more they buy, the higher the price climbs—a classic positive feedback loop.
But the most dangerous point is precisely here.
The ETF has indeed brought new capital inflows to ZEC. Since the Grayscale ZCSH launched on August 25, it has continuously attracted funds, with net inflows exceeding $34.4 million by early September, and the fund's asset size rapidly expanding.
So this round cannot simply be dismissed as "pure speculation."
However, don't equate ETF capital directly with fundamental improvements.
ZEC's biggest contradiction now is that the price has run too fast; narratives and capital are passing the baton, but the valuation has long since distanced itself from the long-term moving averages. High RSI levels and short-term technical indicator stagnation mean that while further short squeezes are possible, each step up also increases the pressure to realize profits.
What I find most worth watching now is not whether it can continue to rise, but who will take the final baton after the shorts are fully squeezed out.
The $1200 mark has shifted from a psychological barrier to a short-term dividing line between bulls and bears. Holding above it indicates the market is still discovering new prices; falling back below it warns that this short squeeze rally may be entering a retreat phase.
