About USAIRegulationSplit
On Sep 22 local time, Trump proposed renaming AI "super intelligence" at the UN General Assembly, opposed a global framework limiting AI and backed US development. On Sep 23, Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar introduced a bill to permanently ban artificial superintelligence and pause advanced AI development pending federal rules. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang supported model testing and safety responsibility but opposed blanket regulation. Rules may affect model development, AI capex and compute demand.

Renaming AI does not settle the economics of building it. Trump's opposition to a global framework limiting development signals a policy preference, but no new rules are in place.
My read: the more useful test is whether agent adoption can justify sustained spending on chips, compute and data centers. Regulatory room may help; it cannot substitute for demand.

🚨 HUGE NATIONAL SECURITY WIN!
The D.C. Circuit just backed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. A 2-1 panel upheld the Pentagon’s designation of Anthropic as a supply-chain risk after the company tried to handcuff how the U.S. military can use its Claude AI models.
Not a foreign adversary.
Not a district-court sideshow.
Not another Silicon Valley lecture dressed up as “safety.”
Judges Gregory Katsas and Neomi Rao said Hegseth had ample support. Anthropic wanted veto power over autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance uses. The Pentagon said no private company gets to insert its politics into the chain of command. The court agreed.
A California judge went the other way last month. This fight may head to the Supreme Court. For now, warfighters just got a clear message from the capital’s appeals court.
America’s military answers to the Constitution and the Commander in Chief. Not to a Bay Area boardroom. 🇺🇸

I had a wonderful conversation with Caleb Max, President and CEO of the @TheNAIAorg National Artificial Intelligence Association about AI regulation underway in the US. Exclusive podcast & written interview coming soon 🔜 on Deep Dive Podcast/newsletter

Elon Musk just laid out a practical AI safety approach that applies fairly to the leading AI companies in both the U.S. and China
"there could be a working committee to figure out safety, because.....in order for safety to work, it can’t just be regulation in the U.S. or regulation in China
It’s got to be, how do we apply regulation fairly to AI produced in any country?
But really, China and the U.S. are the ones that really matter here
So I think a really important thing that would be good for the safety of AI for all of humanity”
